Four students earn 2018 Beaker & Bunsen GSRS honors
Four third-year graduate students—Kajari Bera, Beth Dewing, Anna Luke, and Craig Van Bruggen—received top honors, Beaker and Bunsen honors, in the highly competitive 17th annual Graduate Student Research Symposium, Friday, June 1, 2018. The winners received a University of Minnesota mug and travel award. Honorable mentions were awarded to Stephanie Mitchell, Matthew Porter, Debmalya Ray, and Wenyang Zhao.
Forty-eight graduate students participated in the symposium, including Constance Anderson, Sahil Arora, Carlos M. Baez-Cotto, Jie Bao, Evan P. Beaumier, Nicholas D. Brinza, Jingyi Chen, Patrick Crossland, Sai Puneet Desai, Adeline Espinasse, David J. Goldfeld, Natalie V. Hudson-Smith, Anna K. Huff, Clare M. Johnston, Meghan N. Knudtzon, Siu Yi Kwang, Erik Larsen, Amani L. Lee, Matthew LeMon, Mukunda Mandal, Meghan McGreal, Joseph P. McKillip, Amy Ott, Mary Packard, Keun-Young “Kevin” Park, Hung Q. Pham, Spencer A. Reisbick, Hussnain Sajjad, Derek J. Saxon, Prachi Sharma, Yuan Sheng, Steven J. Underwood, Zhao Wang, Xuelan Wen, Shuyi Xie, Kang Xiong-Hang, and Katelyn N. Youmans.
This year's distinguished judges were Alan Hargens, Ph.D., professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of California, San Diego; Barbara Peterson, director of 3M Library and Ecolab Information Services and Global Knowledge Management (retired); Kathleen S. Shafer, Ph.D., research specialist for 3M Corporate Research Materials Laboratory; and Terrance “Terry” P. Smith, Ph.D., technical director of 3M Corporate Research Materials Lab. Faculty judges were professors Philippe Buhlmann, Christopher Douglas, Doreen Leopold, Kenneth Leopold, Aaron Massari, Angela Perkins, William Pomerantz, and Jane Wissinger.
