The Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) has published an Americal Chemical Society select virtual issue based on the outstanding work of young investigators published in 2017 in its publication. One of the featured articles encompasses Professor Connie Lu's research on the "Stable Dihydrogen Complexes of Cobalt(−I) Suggest an Inverse trans-Influence of Lewis Acidic Group 13 Metalloligands." Co-authors of the article were graduate student Matthew Vollmer and Jing Xie, Ph.D.
For the 8th year in a row, members of the Department of Chemistry hosted the chemistry track of University on the Prairie. Professor Aaron Massari, graduate students Thorn Dramstad and Cindy Pyles, and undergraduate student Grace Gretz traveled to the University of Minnesota's Southwest Research and Outreach Center in Lamberton, MN, where they directed 50 budding scientists through a series of hands-on activities that explored extractions, separations, and other analytical techniques.
The Department of Chemistry's Chemical Theory Center hosted the two-day 31st Midwest Undergraduate Computational Chemistry Consortium (MU3C) Conference, July 23-24, 2018. Participants attended a variety of workshops, including presentations by Department of Chemistry professors Christopher Cramer, Laura Gagliardi, and Donald Truhlar.
