Wissinger receives award for sustainability chemistry education

Professor Jane Wissinger, Center for Sustainable Polymers (CSP) senior investigator, and Cassandra Knutson and Cassidy Javner, University of Minnesota Materials Research Science and Engineering Center Research (MRSEC) Experiences for Teachers participants, have been selected as recipients of an American Chemical Society Committee on Environmental Improvement Award for incorporating sustainability into chemistry education.

This award is an acknowledgement of the team’s efforts to organize a three-day workshop for Minnesota high school chemistry teachers in the summer of 2017. The workshop included a background and introduction to sustainability and green chemistry along with hands-on laboratory experiments that highlighted novel polymer experiments aligned with next generation science standards.

Registration for the 2018 workshop is now open, which is sponsored by the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, MRSEC, and the CSP.
