Principal Research Interests

Our research group is interested in developing mild chemical methods for the synthesis of peptides and small proteins, and applying these methods to solve interesting and challenging biological problems. Several of the reagents and procedures that we have developed are being used in labs throughout the world for peptide science and combinatorial chemistry; notable examples are the “PAL,” “XAL,” and “BAL” linkers, and the PEG-PS and CLEAR families of supports. Diagrammed to the right are BPTI (upper) and GB1 (lower), current targets of interest in protein design and folding studies. Students in the lab receive a broad, multi-disciplinary training, and graduate to rewarding academic and industrial positions.
